The fun at Tom Baines continues... Here is a brief overview of what we will be learning this week:
Gr.6 Science - This week, we will be spending our time learning about classifying leaves. We will start by visiting the ravine and taking leaf samples to study and compare. By the end of the week, we should know the different parts of a leaf, their purpose, and hopefully which trees they came from.
Gr.6 Math - Poor math, never getting to do anything fun. This week, we will be moving on to learn about factors, especially prime and composite numbers. From last week's quiz, many students struggled with their number facts, so we will start the week making our own number charts and practicing math facts.
Gr.7 Science - As we are in the Interactions and Ecosystems unit, we will be doing research on how abiotic and biotic factors interact. Students will be choosing an abiotic factor to study and share with the class.
Gr.7 Math - We are currently learning about decimals, fractions, and percents. Students will be completing a pixel project where they have to represent the number of coloured tiles by a decimal, fraction, and percent. To do this, first we will be reviewing simplifying fractions and long division.
Gr.8 Life Skills - We have been looking at mental health, stress, and healthy/unhealthy coping strategies. This week, we will be doing a goal setting project. Students will have to select an aspiration goal for the future. Then find out what the steps are to achieving that goal.
Stay healthy my friends!
