Another great week in the books and we are still able to learn in person! This has been great!
Here is what we will be doing this week!
Gr.6 Math - Last week, we played with multiples and factors. We learned about prime and composite numbers. This week, we have been asked to give the students a 50-minute assessment that reviews the previous year's topics. This will give the teachers insight into where we should be focusing our work. After that, we will jump back into finding factors and orders of operations.
Gr.7 Math - Last week, we spent a bit extra time on orders of operations then mainly focused on converting fractions into decimals. This week, we have been asked to give the students a 50-minute assessment that reviews the previous year's topics. This will give the teachers insight into where we should be focusing our work. For the rest of the week, I want to focus on using percentages and decimals in the wonderful world of shopping! Students will be creating a budget for a future trip. There will be added discounts because who doesn't like a good deal. Friday there will be a quiz converting from fractions, decimals, percentages.
Gr.7 Science - Students will be handing in their living organism project and are welcome to volunteer and present their findings. The rest of the week will look at food chains, food webs, and the different types of relationships there are between each part.
Gr.8 Life Skills - Students will be handing in their Goals Project on Monday. I look forward to seeing everyone's unique interests!
This week, I think we will dig into the topic of Empathy. To make things fun (and maybe more awkward than being in grade 8) we will start by learning about the 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman. This may seem like a weird topic, but I found this super helpful in understanding other people's needs.
The 5 Love Languages are:
1. Words of affirmation
2. Quality time
3. Receiving gifts
4. Acts of service
5. Physical touch
By reflecting on ourselves and our relationships of every type (friend, parent, teacher, co-worker, mate) we can better experience empathy.
Before this get's too cheesy, students will be tasked with selecting a book character that they relate to and analyze what love language they may have. Students will also be illustrating a trailer poster that highlights the events that define their characters perspective. I hope it's fun!
Stay healthy my friends,
Mr.Moir
